Christopher Jones

Born 1958, studied at Newcastle University, Chelsea School of Art and Kyoto University of Arts, Japan. Solo exhibitions have taken place in Seoul, Kyoto, Nagoya and Newcastle and he is the recipient of recent awards from Arts Council England, the Arts & Humanities Research Council and Asem Duo (Korea). In Spring 2006 he was Guest Artist at Kyoto Art Centre, during May-June 2007 he was Resident Artist at SangMyung University, Seoul and in September 2007 completed a six-month period as a Northern Print Bursary holder.

Recent work continues a long-standing inquiry into the visualisation of the structures and sensations of memory.
In the catalogue that accompanied Chris's recent exhibition at Northern Print, Newcastle, Gavin Robson wrote: "the new work has an openness and airiness, a fragility which might be associated with new growth... the sensuousness that characterises the layerings of paint suggests a way of recontacting primary experiences of touch and taste which lie dormant in memory".
